Our mission is to be the ‘middel’: a bridge connecting you to objects that resonate with your truth and feed your soul.This mission is built on human connection. We champion slow buying over fleeting trends, and the beauty of recycling and reimagining the objects you live with.
We are a passionate advocate for the careers of living artists, while also helping rediscover the amazing work of long-gone artisans and designers. We honor these ‘pedestrians of history,’ the individuals who built our visual world through their small, powerful acts of creation. We strive to create a community that honors this full spectrum.We are driven by the belief in that “eureka moment” of recognition—that second of inner joy when you cross the door of your home, and the little push of energy you get from an object you truly love.
This vision is my personal story. My name is De Middel, and I have built our mission to be just that: the ‘middel,’ or bridge, to your ‘Art of Joy.’
My perspective is global, personal, and deeply rooted. I am half Belgian, half Spanish, with ancestors from all over the world, and have called London home for nearly 30 years. My professional path has also been a bridge, moving from finance and media to becoming an entrepreneur, mentor, and coach.
This work is grounded in 15 years of coaching artists and my work as a member of the African Art Foundation in Nigeria.
But my greatest influence is my “team”—my incredible, worldwide-spread family, my four children, and my Andalusian mum. They are the source of my empathic approach and my belief that the objects we live with are a constellation of our personal stories.
